2007 Regional Prayer & Fasting Conference
Saturday, February 10, 2007 - Afternoon Session

The Saturday afternoon session of the conference was called to order at approximately 2:30 PM February 10, 2007 by Brother Danny Carter, Regional Overseer of The Church of God for Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.

To begin this session Brother Carter once again called for as many as could to join him at the front of the auditorium for prayer.  Brother Jeff Wilcox, Sister Randols, and Brother Moyer each lead individual prayers to begin this session of prayer, which was followed by the entire congregation joining together in concert prayer.

Again, the Holy Ghost met us at this altar of prayer as we continue to find ourselves in His presence and to cherish the comfort of His sweet, warm embrace. The presence of the Lord has not failed to meet us at each session of this conference.

Brother Ron Legg led the congregation in a time of devotion and scripture reading taken from the 20th chapter of the gospel of Mark followed by Sister Legg leading us in the congregational singing.

Brother Don Bolyard blessing the conference by singing a song entitled “He Will Calm the Troubled Waters”.  He was followed by Sister Jenny Lonz who sang “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us”.

Brother Hazel brought the message for the afternoon session entitled “God’s Confirmation; God’s Choice”.  Brother Hazel began his message by showing us a crooked stick and a straight stick.  He told us that there are a lot of crooked sticks in the world today, referring to folks who do not walk in line with the word of God.  Many of these folks (crooked sticks) will get offended if you talk to them about their crooked walk; they are not open to receiving any instruction.  The Bible says in Proverbs 15:5, “A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent”.

However, if we talk about the straight stick, and we lay the straight down beside their crooked stick, those who, in their hearts, really do want to serve God will transform their crooked ways to match the straight stick.

Confirmation is to make certainty of a matter.  The Holy Ghost can make certainty of a matter.  It is He that we are relying on to make certainty of the matter within The Church of God today.

  • Luke 1: 1-4
1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those
things which are most surely believed among us,
2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses,
and ministers of the word;
3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the
very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

We have come together in this Prayer Conference this weekend to receive counsel from God.  We need counsel from God.  There are too many folks today who are trying to give God their counsel; they are trying to tell God how He should be doing things because they think they know better; they are trying to do God’s job.  We serve a God today who wants to help His people, His Church; we need to hear His counsel today.  Not my will Father, but thine, be done.

When God does something, or when the Holy Ghost gives an answer, it will not almost be right.  No, when God does something, or when the Holy Ghost gives an answer, it will be exactly right, and it will be clear as crystal.  The Holy Ghost knows how to blow a trumpet; He will NOT give an uncertain sound.

In the 17th chapter of the book of Numbers the children of Israel were complaining about Aaron and they were wandering if he was really God’s appointed man.  God had a way of showing the Children of Israel who was His chosen man.  God instructed Moses to speak to the Children of Israel and from each tribe to take a rod.  Aaron’s name was to be written on the rod of the tribe of Levi.

Brother Hazel began to call out the names of the tribes of Israel.  As each name was called a rod bearing the name of one of the tribes of Israel was brought down to the front of the auditorium representing the rods that the tribes brought to be laid in the tabernacle of the congregation.

God had told Moses that the man’s rod, whom He had chosen, would blossom, and that by this Confirmation of His choice God would cause to cease all of the murmurings of the Children of Israel.

The next day Moses brought all the rods out of the tabernacle and every man took again his own rod.  It was Aaron’s rod that budded. God provided proof positive, CONFIRMATION, of His choice that Aaron was His appointed man.

Church, we don’t want to be wrong.  As Brother Hazel said in his message, If The Church of God is fixed, then God fix me. It is our soul’s desire that God will fix The Church of God, and when He does everything that needs to be fixed, will be fixed; we will be fixed; our situation will be fixed.

We just want to see some blossoms.  God wants all the questions and the doubt settled.  The General Overseer of The Church of God has a tremendous responsibility.  Right now The Church of God is fragmented into four separate pieces, with each of the four pieces having good dear saints who are sincere in their love for God, their love for The Church of God, and their desire to do what is right and to be a straight stick.

It is the desire of our hearts that God would just take care of everything.   Again, if The Church of God is fixed, then Lord fix us.  All we want is for God’s man to be in place, and that all questions and all doubt be removed by God’s Confirmation.

We don’t want it to be done our way; we want all to be done God’s way.
